Repair or replace? Aircon in Ang Mo Kio's older flats

Ang Mo Kio is one of Singapore's mature HDB towns, developed from the 1970s. Ang Mo Kio and Yio Chu Kang stations on the North-South Line and Mayflower on the Thomson-East Coast Line serve estates such as Teck Ghee, Cheng San and Kebun Baru, with AMK Hub and Ang Mo Kio Town Garden at the centre and light industrial estates along the town's edges.

In blocks this old, the aircon has normally been replaced at least once, and pipes or trunking from an earlier installation may still be in the wall. The typical complaints are a unit that runs but blows warm air, water dripping along the trunking, or a blinking light after a power trip. A repair is usually worth it when one part has failed: a capacitor, fan motor, sensor or PCB.
